This chilli is grown for its leaves rather than its fruit. It suits beginners and home cooks who enjoy chilli-leaf soup and stir-fries. Plants may still flower and set small chillies.

  1. Sow seeds 0.5 cm deep in a seedling tray and keep warm and moist.
  2. Transplant at 4–6 leaves into pots, polybags or beds, 30–40 cm apart.
  3. When plants reach 20–25 cm, pinch the tips to make them branch.
  4. Pick young leaves and tender tips regularly, leaving enough leaves for the plant to keep growing.

Tip: pinching off flowers keeps the plant putting its energy into new leaves. Cook the leaves before eating, as is the usual way to enjoy them.
