Black waxy corn suits gardeners with a sunny bed or large polybags. The kernels are sticky and chewy rather than sweet, and turn dark purple-black as they mature.
- Sow 2 seeds per hole, 3–4 cm deep, 25–30 cm apart in rows 60–75 cm apart.
- Keep the strongest seedling per hole once plants are about 10 cm tall.
- Water regularly, especially when tassels and silks appear.
- Harvest about 20–25 days after the silks appear, when the silks have turned brown and the kernels are full.
Tip: corn is wind-pollinated, so plant in a block of at least 3–4 short rows rather than one long line. Keep it away from sweet corn or other corn so they do not cross.
