Bi-color perilla has leaves that are green on top and purple underneath, so one plant covers most kitchen uses: fresh leaves for wraps and salads, or cooked with fish, crab and stir-fries. It is also traditionally steeped as a tea. A good first perilla for anyone who wants both looks and flavour.
Tip: perilla flowers early under Malaysia's short days. Pinch off most flower spikes, but let one plant set seed — dry the spikes and save the seeds for your next sowing.

Deep purple, strongly aromatic perilla for pickles, fish dishes and tea — a showpiece in herb pots.
