Mugwort is tough once established, but the seed is dust-fine, so the seedling stage needs care. A good choice for home cooks who want fresh leaves for traditional kuih such as 艾草粿.
- Mix the tiny seeds with a little dry sand and scatter on moist seedling mix.
- Keep in bright shade and mist daily until seedlings appear.
- Pot up or plant out at 5–6 leaves, 30–40 cm apart.
- Pick young tips from about day 60; regular cutting keeps leaves tender.
Tip: mugwort spreads by underground runners — a large pot keeps it under control. Cut back leggy stems after the rainy season to refresh the plant.
