Old cucumber is grown like any cucumber, but the fruit is left on the vine until the skin turns golden-brown and netted. It needs a sturdy trellis and a bit more patience — good for growers with a sunny bed.

Sow 2 seeds per hole, 1.5–2 cm deep, 50–60 cm apart; keep the stronger seedling.
Build a strong trellis about 2 m tall; mature fruits are heavy.
Water deeply in the morning and feed regularly once flowering starts.
Leave fruits to mature on the vine and harvest when the skin is golden-brown and firm.

Tip: keep only 2–3 fruits per vine to mature at a time, and support heavy fruits with a net sling.
