Kale is a cool-weather crop, so in lowland Malaysia it grows more slowly and needs a little care — but a healthy plant keeps producing leaves for months. Good for gardeners who have had some success with leafy greens.
- Sow 2–3 seeds per cell in seedling trays, 0.5–1 cm deep.
- Transplant at 4–5 true leaves into a large pot or bed, 30–40 cm apart.
- Feed lightly and water in the morning; keep the soil evenly moist.
- Pick the lowest leaves when they are palm-sized, always leaving the top crown.
Tip: caterpillars love kale. Cover plants with insect netting from day one and check under the leaves every few days.
