Periwinkle (kemunting cina) is for hot, sunny spots — west-facing balconies, porch steps and driveways — where it flowers for months with little care.
- Sow about 0.5 cm deep in a tray and cover it with cardboard; the seed germinates best in the dark.
- Remove the cover as soon as seedlings appear and give bright light.
- Pot on at 3–4 pairs of true leaves into a gritty, fast-draining mix.
- Pinch the tip at 10–15 cm and water only when the top of the mix is dry.
Safety: all parts of the plant are toxic if eaten. Grow it as an ornamental only, out of reach of young children and pets.
