Radish is one of the quickest crops you can pull from a balcony box or terrace-house bed, and a good first root crop for beginners.
- Sow directly in loose, well-drained mix, 1–1.5 cm deep.
- Keep the mix evenly moist; seedlings appear in a few days.
- Thin small radish to 5 cm apart (daikon 15–20 cm) once the first true leaves show.
- Pull small radish when the shoulders are 2–3 cm across.
Tip: sow a short row every 1–2 weeks. Radish is best young — left too long it turns pithy and hot. The thinnings make tasty microgreens.
