Misai kucing is a Malaysian kampung favourite: a bushy perennial about 50–100 cm tall with spikes of white or pale lilac flowers whose long stamens look like cat's whiskers. Bees and butterflies love it, and the leaves are traditionally dried for tea. Raising it from seed takes a little patience at the start.
- Press the tiny seeds onto moist, fine seedling mix; do not cover.
- Keep humid under a clear lid or plastic bag in bright shade until they sprout.
- Pot up seedlings at 4–6 leaves, then plant out 40–50 cm apart.
- Pinch the tips often for a bushy plant and pick leaves as needed.
Tip: once you have one good plant, stem cuttings root easily in moist soil — a quick way to grow more.
