Red Long Bean Seeds

One of the easiest climbing vegetables for lowland Malaysia, and the red pods make it a fun choice for families and first-time growers.

1. Sow 2–3 seeds per hole, 2–3 cm deep, into moist (not soggy) soil.
2. Keep the 2 strongest seedlings and set up a trellis about 2 m tall.
3. Guide the vines onto the trellis; feed lightly and water deeply in dry weather.
4. Pick pods when they are about pencil-thick and still smooth, every 1–2 days.

Tip: the red colour fades somewhat when cooked — stir-fry quickly or add near the end to keep more of it. Watch for aphids on young shoots after dry spells.
