Honeydew is for keen growers with a sunny yard or rooftop and ideally a simple rain shelter. It is fussier than watermelon, but a home-grown melon is a real treat.
- Sow 1.5–2 cm deep and transplant early, keeping the root ball intact.
- Train a single stem up a strong trellis and prune side shoots as the guide explains.
- Hand-pollinate in the morning and keep one fruit per plant, held in a sling.
- Reduce watering in the last week; harvest when the skin turns creamy and the blossom end gives slightly.
Tip: keep leaves dry — water at the base in the morning. Wet foliage brings downy mildew fast in our humidity.
