French beans (kacang buncis) are a fast crop for balcony planter boxes and small yards. They are easier in cool highlands, but lowland growers can still get good harvests with steady care.
- Sow directly into moist mix, 2–3 cm deep and 15–30 cm apart depending on bush or climbing type.
- Keep the surface just moist until seedlings appear, then mulch.
- Water evenly and feed a potassium-rich liquid fertilizer once flowers appear.
- Pick pods slim and crisp, every 2–3 days.
Tip: in lowland heat, flowers drop easily. Give morning sun with light afternoon shade, keep the soil moist, and sow small batches every few weeks.
