Carrots prefer cool weather, so in lowland Malaysia they take a little more care — but home-grown carrots are very rewarding. They suit growers who are ready for a challenge.
- Fill a deep container with sieved, sandy, stone-free mix and soak it.
- Sow seed thinly, mixed with sand, about 0.5 cm deep.
- Cover the furrow with a damp sack or shade cloth and keep it moist until seedlings appear.
- Thin to 5–8 cm apart in two stages.
Tip: shorter and rounder types cope best with lowland heat and shallower pots. Never use fresh manure in the mix — it causes forked roots.
