Broccoli is a cool-weather crop, so in lowland Malaysia expect smaller heads than in the shops — but it has a big advantage over cauliflower: after the main head is cut, it keeps producing tender side shoots.
- Sow in a seedling tray about 0.5 cm deep, ideally from October to December.
- Transplant at 4–5 true leaves into a large pot, one plant each.
- Keep the soil moist, feed regularly and keep netting over the plants.
- Cut the head while the buds are tight and green, then harvest side shoots.
Tip: check the head every day once it appears — in lowland heat it can open into yellow flowers within days.
